Residency – Mathilde Lavenne and Matt Rowe

Residency – Mathilde Lavenne and Matt Rowe

Research laboratory
la malterie organises a research-residency that aims to offer an opportunity for young artists from different countries to exchange and experiment on a collaborative project. La malterie sent a call for applications to all the artists in its studios with the aim of selecting one of them to participate in a collaborative project with a foreign artist.

In 2010, la malterie hosted a collaborative project involving the French visual artist Mathilde Lavenne and the English artist Matt Rowe .

La malterie offered a large residency space, financial support and tutor assistance during the residency (which ran from 25 May to 18 June 2010). This period represented an opportunity to give form to informal exchanges that had taken place between the two artists since 2008.

Inspired by notions of territory, local history and textile traditions, this « laboratory » associated the research of Mathilde Lavenne (particularly her work in volume : installations using glass and ceramic) and Matt Rowe, particularly in the field of photography and creation of situations.

Beyond this project, Mathilde and Matt are both part of non profit organisations that will benefit from the closer relationships built through this project. These two organisations, Le V.R.A.C (Lille) and the Club Shepway (Folkestone) are working in a similar spirit of exchange and creation to build international artistic networks.
