Fia Cielen

The work of Fia Cielen, which consists of drawings, installations and sculptures becomes a mild form of subversion. One of her artistic intentions is the re-enchantment of a disenchanted, banal reality. She achieves this with a strong sense of humour and the building of an absurd setting, often countered by an uncanny, almost sinister atmosphere.

Her work can be viewed as a kind of Wunderkammer, a hybrid work that raises questions about artificial nature, transgression and transformation. For Kunst&Zwalm Fia Cielen realised three new sculptures, inspired by folklore and animism. They are types of idols, which are set up in a religious formation. The sculptures depict yet another transformation of man into something animal.
