Gathering – Melanie Manchot

  Gathering – Melanie Manchot

Melanie Manchot uses photography and film to take a closer look at the way people interact in public spaces. Her projects often take inspiration from group portraiture to explore individual and collective identities.

Her forthcoming exhibition will consists of two video works. For ‘Celebration (Cyprus Street),’  Manchot worked with residents of Bethnal Green to organise a street party. The resulting film consists of a single tracking shot, capturing residents as they gather in front of the camera for a group portrait.

Alongside ‘Celebration (Cyprus Street)’ Fabrica will also present  a new complementary  video work.

Manchot’s work has been exhibited internationally, with solo presentations at Haus Am Waldsee, Berlin; The Photographers’ Gallery, London; Focalpoint Gallery, Southend-on-Sea; Kunsthaus Mettmann, Duesseldorf; and Cornerhouse, Manchester. She has contributed to numerous group exhibitions, including the 52nd Venice Biennale and the first Moscow Biennale.
